Dormition of the Mother of God Orthodox Monastery is located seven miles north of Jackson on 120 acres of wooded land.
It was founded by three Romanian nuns with a mission to spread Orthodoxy in America. The monastery offers retreats, a gift shop, and daily chapel services open to the public.
The nuns at the monastery arrange daily activities around services and prayer. They also greet visitors, sew vestments and prayer robes, create icons and beaded eggs and make altar bread.
