Metropolitan Savas Enthroned New Greek Orthodox Bishop of Pittsburgh

11/12/2011

Metropolitan Savas was enthroned the new Greek Orthodox Bishop of Pittsburgh. Metropolitan Savas, 54, was nominated by his fellow American bishops and elected last month by the synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Turkey. He succeeds Metropolitan Maximos, who resigned in September for health reasons.

“Receive this staff and serve in faith, love and wisdom,” he said before Metropolitan Savas was seated in his throne in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland.

According to the ‘Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’, the enthronement was carried live on the Internet, and Metropolitan Savas took a few moments to greet his thousands of Facebook friends worldwide, to hearty laughter from more than 500 people who packed the cathedral.
