On 26 November the rite of consecration of the Cathedral of Khust in the name of Cyril and Methodius was held.
Consecration of the Cathedral and Divine Liturgy were led by a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the UOC Metropolitan Onuphrius Chernovtsy and Bukovina, in concelebration of Metropolitan Pytyrym of Mykolayiv and Voznesensk, Archbishop Mark of Khust and Vynohradiv, Archbishopo Augustine of Lviv and Galicia, Archbishop Ioann of Kherson and Tavria, Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil, Archbishop Theodore of Mukachevo and Uzhgorod, Bishop Meletius of Khotyn and Bishop Methodius (Petrovtsi).

On October 26, 1990 at the Special Meeting of Orthodox Christians of Khust it was decided to organize a parish and to start building a church in honor of the holy brothers Methodius and Cyril, Enlighteners of the Slavs. Already on November 14 the same year, the newly created community appealed to the authorities for allocation of a land plot, and on July 10, 1991 at the parish was visited by His Grace Euthimius, bishop of Mukachevo and Uzhgorod, who appointed its first rector, the late Archpriest Constantine Tsutskov. Upon formation of Khust Diocese in 1994, the church received the title of city cathedral.
