MOFEPN Award to be Given to Abbas

MOSCOW, November 2, 2011 (WAFA) – The International Fund for the Unity of Orthodox Peoples (MOFEPN) Wednesday decided to award President Mahmoud Abbas the MOFEPN Patriarch Aleksei II Award, said an official letter.

MOFEPN President, VA Alekseyev, sent a letter to the Palestinian embassy to Russia, saying Abbas is awarded for his outstanding work in strengthening the unity of the Orthodox peoples and the assertion and promotion of Christian values in society.

Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias, also the head of the MOFEPN Board of Trustees, will award Abbas in an official ceremony on November 21, in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, added the letter.

The award, given by MOFEPN in coordination with the Russian Foreign Ministry, was previously granted to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in 2009 and the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich in 2010.
