Patriarchal Historical Chapel Celebrates Its Protector: Saint Pious Parascheva

The historical chapel of the Patriarchal Residence dedicated to Saint Great Martyr George, Saint Prophet Daniil and to Saint Pious Parascheva celebrates its protector. On this occasion, tonight a group of priests and deacons celebrated a Vigil service in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

The chapel dedicated to Saint Great Martyr George and to Saint Pious Parascheva represents the oldest part of the Patriarchal Residence. Built at the same time with the old priory, founded by prince Constantine Serban (1654 – 1658), changed later on into Metropolitan Residence, the chapel was consolidated in the time of metropolitan Teodosie (1668 – 1672 and 1679 – 1708), with the contribution of prince Gheorghe Duca (1673 – 1678), when it is supposed to have been dedicated to “Saint Great Martyr George”. The chapel would be finished later on, in 1723, by prince Niolae Mavrocordat and by metropolitan Daniil (1719 – 1731), when a few renewals and the inner mural painting were executed. It was at the same time that the chapel received a second dedication day, that of Saint Prophet Daniil.
