Metropolitan accuses Montenegro of persecuting SPC
9.10.2011
PODGORICA — Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije has accused the Montenegrin authorities of persecuting the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) and its priests.
He added that those who fought against God were always punished.
Amfilohije criticized the Montenegrin authorities for preventing the construction of churches and favoring the non-canonical and unrecognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church (CPC), the Podgorica media report.
The metropolitan pointed out that CPC received most of the funds from the state authorities, the purpose of which was to destroy the SPC, which existed in Montenegro for centuries.
Amfilohije also said that SPC priests and himself were being persecuted in Montenegro, whereas the people who lead Montenegro to poverty and destroyed hundreds of companies were not prosecuted.
“People are taught in churches not to lie, steal, kill, rob or destroy, but to eat the fruit of the labor of their hands,” Amfilohije underlined.
