On August 14, the day of Procession of the Precious Wood of the Life-Giving Cross, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis Bishop Theodosius of Brovary, Chairman of the Synodal Department of the UOC for Pastoral Care of the soldiers-internationalists, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Resurrection (Afghan) Church of Kyiv, where he is rector.
Concelebrating to him was Dean of Ivankiv District of the diocese of Kyiv Archpriest Ioann Tokaruk, clergymen of the church. At the Lesser Entrance, with the blessing of His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, for the years-long worthy service to the Orthodox Church Bishop Theodosius conferred on Archpriest Ioann the hierarchical award – the decorated cross. After the Divine Liturgy the traditional blessing of the new crop of honey, grains and fragrant herbs was performed. At the conclusion of worship Bishop Theodosius welcomed those who prayed on the occasion, and addressed with words of gratitude and congratulations to the warden of the church, Chairman of the Committee of the Families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan, A.V. Shipova. Alla Shipova celebrated on August 12 the 75th birthday anniversary. She has dedicated to the church and its revival, restoration, improvement the past 20 years. Today, with the blessing of Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, as a blessing for the diligent work for the benefit of the Orthodox Church and in connection with the anniversary, Bishop Theodosius conferred on Alla Shipova the church distinction- the Order of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara, 2nd degree.
After the worship service all those praying on this day at the Resurrection Church went home with a gift – the blessed honey.
