Metropolitan Volodymyr conferred on His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II the diploma of Doctor of Theology

On July 30th His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II visited the Kyiv Theological Academy. Near the entrance to the administrative building of the KTA the distinguished guest was greeted by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine together with the Rector of the Kyiv Theological Schools Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil.

During a brief tour His Eminence Anthony acquainted the Georgian Primate with history, present-day organization and life of the Kyiv Theological Academy.

In the hall of the academic building of the Kyiv Theological Academy His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II met with teachers and students of the Kyiv Theological Schools.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine and Rector of the Kyiv Theological Schools Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil took their seats on the presidium of the meeting.

Also present at the meeting were the bishops of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Simeon Vinnytsia and Mohyliov-Podilskyy, Bishop Roman of Yakutia and Lensk, clergymen of the Diocese of Kyiv, representatives of Georgian Diaspora in Ukraine.

Opening the meeting, in his greeting word Rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy, Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil acquainted the participants with the biography of His Beatitude Patriarch Catholicos and spoke about his contribution into the development of theological science, stressing its importance, listed books and publications of His Holiness.

His Eminence the Rector announced the decision of the Academic Council of the Kyiv Theological Academy to confer on the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church the degree of Doctor of Theology «Honoris causa».

In his word of response Patriarch Ilia II extended gratitude for this honorary degree and stressed the importance of theological education today.

In conclusion, the Rector presented the Georgian Patriarch print and multimedia copies of the publications of the Kyiv Theological Academy. In his turn, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II offered the icon of St George the Trophy-Bearer and some books to the Kyiv Theological Schools, and to His Beatitude Metropolitan the audio CD with his musical compositions.
