Istanbul Grants Resources for St. Stefan Church Restoration

Istanbul municipality has allotted 1.2M euro for the reconstruction of Bulgarian St. Stefan Church in Turkey’s capital. St Stefan Church, also known as the Bulgarian Iron Church, is a Bulgarian Orthodox church in Istanbul, famous for being made of cast iron.
It has a 40m high bell tower and is the only Christian temple with gold plated dome. In the church yard are the graves of Bulgarian renaissance figures Ilarion Makariopolski, Avksentiy Veleshki, Meletiy Veleshki and Paisiy of Plovdiv, who fought for independent Bulgarian church.
