His Holiness Launched Appeal to Holy Rus and Europe

In his word after the Divine Liturgy His Holiness Patriarch Kirill reminded of the model of the soviet society and its consequences: “We know what the attempts of organizing wealthy, happy and even fair life without God. We remember how the great country, sparing no effort, wasting human resources and the resources given by God, tried to build a wealthy and prosperous society, but without God. And nothing good came of it. And no resources, no human power proved to be able to create the happiness that people dreamed about and for the sake of which millions of people laid down their lives. This terrible historical experience testifies of how any efforts to build Babylon tower destroy both the tower and the human lives.”

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed from the Holy Mount of Pochayiv to Ukraine, “the country where the faith is strong, where so many people call the God’s name” with an appeal to “hold true to the Lord, to combine faith and labor”.

«For building peaceful and fair life, in order that it was so, our prayer should be strong, our groan to the Lord whole-hearted. To achieve this, the unity of the Church of Christ is to be restored, that very unity without which no salvation of people can be achieved. Therefore human ambitions, political projects and other ideas, dividing the Church today are to be set apart. Since no human project will not bring happiness and well-being if the achievement of this idea requires division of the people, of the Church, requires division between heavens and earth”, said the Patriarch.

The First Hierarch addressed this appeal to Russia, Belarus and Moldova, to all the countries forming the spiritual space of the Holy Rus: “We should not yield allure and temptation of the new idolatry, we should not destroy with our own hands the only thing that can provide human happiness. One should combine faith and labor, prayer and human efforts, and then everything will be in power of a believer, then we can take on the world, joining in one human effort the Divine and human principles.”

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church gave his archpastoral instruction to the brothers-Christians of Europe, in particular, not to open again the chapter closed by Eastern Slavs. “By our blood and sufferings we understood what is to live with God. And when today in Europe they refuse their Christian roots, forget their Christian values, push out religious life into the domain of the private life, they make a great mistake”, His Holiness summarized.
