DECORATION OF DEPARTING CONSUL GENERAL OF GREECE IN ALEXANDRIA BY HIS BEATITUDE

On 24th June 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Grace Gabriel Bishop of Mareotis and the Clergy of the Patriarchate attended the reception hosted at the Consular Residence by the departing Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr George Diakofotakis for the Hellenic Community on the completion of his tenure in the Great City.
During the reception His Beatitude addressed the Consul General who is from Alexandra, the Archon Protekdikos of the Patriarchal Throne, speaking of his profitable Consular tenure, his ethos and courtesy and his love for the Patriarchate and the Greeks in Alexandria and awarded him the Commander of the Order of St Savvas the Sanctified with a Star. He also awarded his wife Mrs Cleopatra Pappa-Diakofotaki, Administrative Secretary of the Consulate, with the Cross of ST Mark for her productive service.
The Consul General was emotional in his acceptance the honourable distinction and expressed his gratitude to the Venerable Primate of the Alexandrian Church for the excellent collaboration and his paternal love towards himself and his family.
The proceedings were attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece in Egyot Mr Christodoulos Lazaris, who also addressed Mr Diakofotakis, the Consuls General in Alexandria of Great Britain, Russia, France, Turkey, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, China and the Palestinian Authority, Honorary Consuls, the President of Sae Mr Stephanos Tamvakis, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community Mr Ioannis Siokas, the Chairmen of all the Hellenic Associations, Egyptian officials, businessmen and members of the community.
The next day 25th June 2011, His Beatitude hosted an official lunch in honour of the Consul General and his wife at the Patriarchal Mansion, which was also attended by His Excellency Ambassador Christodoulos Lazaris together with his wife, the new Military Attaché of the Greek Embassy Mr Stylianos Petrakis, a Naval Captain and Members of the Patriarchate.
