Patriarch Kirill to visit Ukraine on May 6-8

KYIV, May 5. /UKRINFORM/. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill will visit Ukraine from May 6 to May 8, UKRINFORM reported, with reference to the website patriarh.in.ua.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church is expected to arrive in Donetsk (eastern Ukraine) in the evening on May 6. Early on May 7, Patriarch Kirill will conduct a divine liturgy at the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in the city.

Then, he will visit the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. On May 7, Patriarch Kirill will visit the Annunciation Cathedral, while in the evening he will participate in celebrations to mark the 90th birthday of Metropolitan Nykodym of Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv – one of the oldest hierarchs of the Ecumenical Orthodoxy. The celebrations will be held at Kharkiv Mykola Lysenko Opera and Ballet Theater.

On Sunday, May 8, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Volodymyr will head a divine liturgy on Freedom Square in the center of Kharkiv. Then, they will lay wreaths at the Memorial Complex of Glory.

The Russian patriarch last visited Ukraine on April 25-27. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church attended events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The patriarch held a religious service near the destroyed fourth reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, a prayer service at the Illia Church in Chornobyl and visited the patients of the children’s department of the Kyiv Institute of Cancer.
