Armenian Pontiff Receives Vice President of the European People’s Party

On April 27, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Mr. Jaime Mayor Oreja, Vice President of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) of the European Parliament.
His Holiness expressed his satisfaction for the developing cooperation and mutual ties between the Institutions of the European Union and the Armenian officials. There was also a reflection on the current challenges facing civil life, and their solutions. The Armenian Pontiff mentioned that the activities of globalization and various foreign phenomena distorted the spiritual perceptions and life that has been anchored on Christian values for centuries. The Armenian Pontiff stressed that only through the development of strong spiritual-moral values would it be possible to overcome all types of challenges and obstacles.
Mr. Oreja talked about the necessity of restoring traditional values in Europe, mentioning that the religious leaders of the Christian Churches had a great role in imparting Christian values into the life of Europe. Mr. Oreja also stressed the importance of dialogue between the Churches.
During the meeting there was also a reflection on the importance of community life and Christian education.
At the conclusion of the meeting the Pontiff of All Armenians extended his blessings and appreciation to Vice President Oreja for his devotion and efforts aimed at the preservation and protection of spiritual-moral values.
