Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Michael of Austria & Exarch of Hungary & Mid-Europe Receives Highest Austrian Honor

A historical moment for Orthodoxy in Austria and a new milestone in its relations with the Austrian state is the forthcoming distinction to the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Mid-Europe, His Eminence Michael. The Metropolitan will be awarded with the Golden Commander’s Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria.
As stated in the relevant announcement of the Presidency of the Republic in Vienna, the ceremony will be held in the Presidential Manor. The honors will be personally awarded by Federal President Heinz Fischer.
It is stated that His Eminence will receive the honorary distinction in honor of his long service as Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and President of the Episcopal Conference in Austria, and especially for his contribution and support towards the integration of the Orthodox faith in the Austrian Community.
