The National Creation Contest Entitled Child in the Family

Romanian Orthodox Church Contest

Children aged from 10 – 16 of the 29 eparchies of the Romanian Patriarchate are invited to express the way in which their own baptism is reflected in their life, within the National Creation Contest entitled “Child in the Family”. The competition is organised by the Youth Catechisation Department within the Theological Educational Department of the Romanian Patriarchate.

“The contest entitled Child in the Family follows the last year tradition when the Church invited the children to express their faith through the contest entitled My Creed. This year, the contest will focus on the way in which the child understands the Sacrament of the Holy Baptism and his Christian engagement in the family. If last year cca 100 000 children participated in the contest, this year their number will certainly be larger because the contest will also involve the parishes included in the programme “Choose School!”, declared for Trinitas TV channel Rev. Inspector Constantin Naclad, coordinator of the catechetic projects of the Romanian Patriarchate.

Children can express creativity in several ways

“Two sections will be organised: a literary section which will consist in drafting an essay or a literary work by which the child should render homage to the Sacrament of the Holy Baptism and another literary section consisting in creating a work: painting, drawing or any other artistic work. The way in which these works will be estimated, starting from the level of the parish, deanery, eparchy and of the Romanian Patriarchate, will consist in the appreciation of the literary work, and on the other hand in organising an exhibition displaying the most beautiful works of the children”, said Rev. Inspector Constantin Naclad.

At present, the contest is implemented at the level of the parishes and deaneries.

“Till the end of April this stage will be over and the winners of the three prizes for each section will be declared at the deanery level. From the beginning of May till 5 May an estimation commission of the literary works will be set up and an exhibition of the most beautiful ones will be organised. On 21 May the winners will be awarded prizes at the eparchies level, during the celebration of the dedication day of the Patriarchal Cathedral, Saints Constantine and Helen”, said Rev. Inspector Constantin Naclad.

The prizes will consist in books, religious things, as well as trips and pilgrimages.
