Wednesday evening members of St. Elias Eastern Orthodox Church on B Drive South welcomed the 700-year-old icon of the Mother of God during a Paraclesis service.

Currently circulating from its home base with the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in New York City at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign.

The icon was discovered in 1259 near Kursk, Russia, when a hunter found it facing down. Following the Communist revolution the icon, like many Russian people, left the country.

According to the Rev. Lawrence Bacik, pastor of St. Elias, many miracles of all kinds have been attributed to the icon.
