The 2019 St. Herman Calendar is dedicated to the history of the Orthodox Church of Sinai, the smallest of the autonomous Orthodox Churches, based in the Monastery of St. Catherine in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. Home to Orthodox Christians for over 1500 years, Sinai has had a connection to the history of man’s salvation extending back to God’s appearance to the Prophet Moses in the Burning Bush. The still-functioning St. Catherine Monastery survived the early Muslim conquests as well as the events of the politically unstable recent past, and houses many treasures, including rare icons and manuscripts.

Also included in this year’s Calendar are brief biographies and icons of some of the saints whose lives were connected with Mount Sinai or with the St. Catherine Monastery.
