its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5
million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks of release.

$248.4 million globally after three days of release.

it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide. Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of
the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with
claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela
Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy
rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months
before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after
WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was
‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which
would have cost around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The
one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to
what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget
remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported
the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.

what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed
back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully
supported the decision to bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and

‘While Penny is happy to talk to the appropriate authorities
should they feel she has anything useful to add, she will not be discussing the matter with any broadcaster or newspaper at this time.’   

Penny’s husband Rod Stewart accused Gregg of ‘humiliating’ Penny and then having the footage ‘cut’ from the show on Instagram on Thursday, although the production company is yet to comment on the incident. 

The moment when Gregg refused to eat Penny’s tartar
sauce – blasting her for using ‘whole eggs instead of egg yolks’ – re-emerged
after her husband Rod branded him a ‘tubby bully’.

Gregg also chastised Penny – who is a volunteer
special police constable – for being late serving her food to critics in the quarter finals,
leaving her in tears.

Amid tepid returns at the box office for Joker: Folie à Deux, a number of fans
of the sequel took to social media over the weekend in defense of the sequel to Todd Phillips’
2019 motion picture.

The film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix return to the lead role of The Joker/Arthur Fleck,
debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its
predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its
cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical

One fan predicted that the motion picture with
stand the test of time with audiences.

‘I may be one of ten people who genuinely liked the Joker
2. Remember me when society circles back to it in 10 years and

The movie’s box office collapse was swift and has
many in the industry wondering: How did the highly anticipated
sequel to an Oscar-winning, billion-dollar film with the same creative team go wrong?
Just three weeks ago, tracking services pegged the movie
for a $70 million debut, which would still have been down a fair amount from Joker’s record-breaking $96.2 million launch in October 2019.

63 percent at Venice to 33 percent by its first weekend in theaters. Perhaps even more surprising were the audience reviews: Ticket buyers polled on opening night gave the film a
deadly D CinemaScore. Exit polls from PostTrak weren’t any better.
It got a meager half star out of five possible.

‘That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,’ said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior
media analyst for Comscore. ‘The biggest issue of all is the reported budget.
A $40 or $50 million opening for a less
expensive movie would be a solid debut.’

Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as
the first film to produce, though reported figures vary
at exactly how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it
pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came
from 415 IMAX screens.

Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,
788 screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1 million.
In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also
open in Japan and China.

Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s
The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million.
Globally, it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice  took third
place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.

The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird, flopped with just
$1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.

Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome
twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office deficit.

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces, some who posit that it was deliberately alienating
fans of the first movie. In cruder terms, it´s been called a ‘middle finger.’ But fans
often ignore the advice of critics, especially when it comes to
opening their wallets to see revered comic book characters on the big screen.

‘They took a swing for the fences,’ Dergarabedian said.
‘But except for a couple of outliers, audiences in 2024 seem to want to know
what they´re getting when they´re going to the theater.
They want the tried and true, the familiar.’ 

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea to make the
Joker sequel a musical. ‘No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical
sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.

The first film was also divisive and the subject of much
discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of person. And yet people
still flocked to see what the fuss was about. Joker went
on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture
and best director, and three wins. It also made over $1 billion and
was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine took the crown.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S.
and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released
Monday.

US pop star Lady Gaga has taken on a track known best to
Aussies as the opening theme to the iconic comedy series Kath
& Kim.

The song, originally written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley for the 1964 stage musical The Roar Of The
Greasepaint – The Smell Of The Crowd, is performed by Gaga for
her film Joker: Folie à Deux.

To most Australians, it is the bold and brassy version sung by Gina Riley, who also plays Kimberly Diane ‘Kim’ Craig
(née Day) in the legendary comedy.

Before being immortalised in to the fabric of Australian pop culture, thanks to Gina’s  rendition, the
song had been covered by the likes of Shirley Bassey in 1968
and Sammy Davis Jr in 1965.

And now, the Born This Way hitmaker has taken a stab at the
track – with the results markedly different to the brassy feel of the
Kath & Kim version.

Gaga’s take, which also features on her new album Harlequin, is a
much more  stripped back that builds to a crescendo thanks to rocking guitars.

Speaking to Today Extra about the track, Kath & Kim star Peter Rowsthorn joked that he was
‘constantly’ hounded by the US pop star regarding the track.

‘She’s constantly calling me, so I know she’s a big fan,’ Pete, who play’s Kim’s on-again-off-again husband Brett in the series, said.

‘I said to Gaga, “If you want to do it, it’s up to you. I’m the fifth banana in this thing”.’

Peter went on to mention that he did have a favourite between the two renditions.

‘I believe the Gina Riley version, or the “Kim” version, is the better version.’ 

The Today Show posted a short clip featuring the Gaga’s version over the Kath and Kim title sequence to
Instagram and viewers were quick to issue their shock at the surprising cover
version.

Kath & Kim, written and performed by Gina Riley and Jane
Turner, ran on the ABC across three seasons from 2002 to 2005.

The lauded sit-com which also starred Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins
and Peter Rowsthorn went on to become one of Australia’s most beloved comedies.

The hit comedy also boasted a litany of high-profile guest stars including Kylie Minogue, Little Britain’s Matt Lucas,
Eric Bana, and cricket icon Shane Warne.

Gaga, whose birth name is Stefani Germanotta,
stars as Harley opposite Joaquin’s Joker in the psychological thriller musical.

However, the musical has received mixed reviews from critics, while fans
took to social media to claim that the songstress is at risk of losing her acting career.

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of
their reason for entering Parliament in the first place
hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the major parties
look set to come together to support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the equivalent
of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they can use
their wealth at all will be limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing
the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom
many months later, well after elections are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency and far less big money being injected
into campaigning by the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would
‘not stop the rot’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party,
as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’. 

They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure
the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the
wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench
effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too
much on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their
irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are
pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes
amongst the Teals. 

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to
tighten donations rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions
of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect
immediately, by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the crossbench out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving
everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition.
I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws
with a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to
include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of,
therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally
in the years to come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed
laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.

They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that
could be incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false
commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where
secret deals were done in private luxury first exploded into the public
eye back in 2007.

Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands of dollars
wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive
VIP lounges was relatively unknown.

It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of
Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.

And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007 were rosy for Labor. 

The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd become prime minister
and John Howard lose his own seat. 

The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of
the Chairman’s Lounge then wasn’t about a prime minister’s
privileges, although John Howard and Kevin Rudd were certainly both members during
their terms as PM. 

But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s Lounge
member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the
club’s hallowed walls, the cat was out of the bag.

The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator Peter Garrett
that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government
– did not deter his party from romping in on election day.

In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his
ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.   

The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for years, but it exploded
into the public conscience in 2007 as the result of a political
furore

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002 during a
row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let the cat out of the bag about the VIP club

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that in defending his disclosure
of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to explain what the private enclave actually was.

In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge
is a separate frequent flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club. 

‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret
Jackson. 

‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’

In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter Richard
Wilkins was also a member of lounge.

Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to
the remark Price said Garrett had made.

Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters,
actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be among the
lounge’s exclusive membership of around 6000.

Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting Qantas on his radio
show.

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading politicians such

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our elite
politicians and business leaders some privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at

‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and
confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of breaking
‘a confidence’.

The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the
sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.

Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have to be personally invited by the airline’s
chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.

‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff
who will be travelling cattle class.

‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive
club have included Pauline Hanson.

‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell
Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive jailed
for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000 Australians including politicians from both sides,
senior public servants, TV stars and actors

Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob McMullan, and
Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle of Grange hermitage as a
gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.

Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the
airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership
of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with one even describing it as an ‘entitlement’. 

Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level of influence over

Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist

registers – in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership
to the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.

Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest statements. 

At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of his upgrades ‘have
been declared as appropriate. What’s appropriate is transparency.’  

Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry
and all 12 assistant ministers.

Entry to the country’s six opulent VIP clubs are suitably discreet, but once inside,
the designer lounges offer free à la carte fine dining, table service and

On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, deputy leader David Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce
are also among the swathes of politicians who
have disclosed they have taken up free membership to the contentious club.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member
and so is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.

Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are members
of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating the airline. 

Senior public servants in the club included Department of Prime Minister
and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb,
Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.

Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous
business class flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting and entertainment events. 

Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to
the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of the Centre for Public
Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to follow suit.

‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.

‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent the
public. Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a plane?’

Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker: Folie à Deux, the New York City native,
38, is releasing a single titled Disease, set to be released Friday.

Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh
album, was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram
account, as she captioned the image: ‘DISEASE 10.25.’

In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching
vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, sported
a black mane as she ran from it.

Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out pre-saves for the
forthcoming single, with links to Spotify and Apple Music, Variety reported.

Terrifier 3 star David Howard Thornton has broken his silence on the low-budget horror film demolishing $200m
flop Joker: Folie à Deux at the box office.

The grisly film – made for about $2 million – stars Thornton as homicidal
clown Art who brutally murders an array of victims in stomach churning scenes – with the film knocking the starry Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga film off the top of the US box office last week.

Thornton said the runaway success of his film had left
him stunned as he likened to battle of the two films to ‘David vs Goliath.’

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

‘This shows Hollywood that we need to start making movies that
take risks again.

The star said he had yet to see the panned Joker sequel,
saying: ‘I was shocked too as the first Joker film I loved, I’m curious
to see why people aren’t as crazy about the second one.’    

Terrifier 3, written and directed by Damien Leone, is an un-rated blood fest, which
has received a 78-percent rating from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.  Audiences have
‘certified’ it ‘hot’ and given it a healthy 90-percent on the popcornmeter.

The film earned $18.3 million at the box office according to The
Numbers.   

Landing in third place was Joker: Folie à Deux.
After winning the box office competition during its debut weekend could not
overcome the bad reviews, enduring an 82-percent decline in ticket sales.

The movie collected only $7.055 million, in spite of being in more
than four thousand theaters across the US.

sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous “insiders” or “rival executives” are
grossly wrong and continues a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included with this week’s opening in China,
and will continue to earn revenue throughout its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and
$165 million globally after two weeks of release.

Gaga and was considered a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures – but was
slammed by critics and failed to ignite at the box office.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’
process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck,
mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film
does not include a DC Studios logo.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
31% and a critic score of 32%

due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips  shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if
the director would make the sequel at a lower price
point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the
budget remaining static. 

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as ‘bleak’ and

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal

on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie. 

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and
also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a
C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%. 

The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box
office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood
Reporter. 

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million –
but the number has since drastically dropped. 

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global
box office. 

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips
– had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However,
the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million. 

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences –
and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International
Film Festival. 

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal
of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score. 

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival
last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’
and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill. 

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as one of the most subversive and original films of the last decade, while its
hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring
as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the
movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up
in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with her. 

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw
claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

Oct 20 (Reuters) – U.S. cigarette maker Altria Group Inc
said on Wednesday industry peer Philip Morris International Inc has agreed to pay
$2.7 billion for the exclusive right to sell IQOS heated tobacco products in the United States.

IQOS is a smokeless tobacco heating device that was developed by Philip Morris and
sold in the United States by Altria until the U.S.
trade regulator banned the import and sale of the product last year following patent claims from rival R.J.
Reynolds.

Philip Morris is looking to

Altria, which sells cigarette brands like Marlboro in the United
States, was spun off from Philip Morris International
in 2008 when the company wanted to separate its U.S.
and overseas businesses.

Altria said one of its subsidiaries had an option to extend the IQOS contract until April
2029 after it had reached certain milestones. However, Philip Morris disagreed with Altria’s position.

“The parties were unable to reach a long-term agreement and decided to enter into the Agreement to transition and ultimately conclude their relationship,” Altria said in a statement.

Philip Morris, which reports quarterly results later on Thursday,
aims to resume supply of IQOS products in the United States by the
first half of 2023.

Altria still holds the rights to sell IQOS in the United States until May 2024,
after which it transitions to Philip Morris.

“We are ready to invest behind IQOS to bring it to market at scale across the U.S.,” Philip Morris Chief Executive
Officer Jacek Olczak said.

Altria said it has already received $1 billion from Philip Morris and will receive the remainder by July 2023.

Everyone shut up at home, nothing to do. In 2020, it generated revenues of $2.23billion (£1.8billion).
By 2021, it was up to $4.8billion (£3.8billion). There was
a brief hiatus in October of that year when they tried
banning sexually explicit content but that lasted about
ten minutes before they switched back.

There have been plenty of scandals along the way. A BBC investigation back in 2021 revealed that children were
not just accessing the material online by foxing the age verification process but were also selling explicit videos on the website.
Leah, 17, had used a fake driving licence to set up an OnlyFans account where she
made £5,000 uploading revealing videos of herself.

There have also been claims of OnlyFans creators using public gyms and

Elise Christie turned to the site when she found herself in financial
difficulties.

All of which seems to be working well for
them, but it can be rather murkier for others.

Not least because, in less than a decade, OnlyFans has
spawned an entire support industry of ‘sugar daddies’ who support performers financially and ‘chatters’ who work for
them. ‘Sugar daddies’ tend to be older male businessmen who ‘invest’ in promising creatives.
In what are referred to rather murkily as ‘mutually beneficial
deals’, they invest in branding and marketing and videography
to boost traffic.

Chatters are different. For the real stars, the traffic is so high and
the interaction with followers so demanding that if they had to do it all themselves, there’s no way they would
ever have time to put their pyjamas back on.

So ‘chatters’ – a sort of online 21st-century Cyrano de Bergerac – do that for them.
Keeping them engaged, online, needy and most of all, spending,
spending, spending for more and more content.

Which means, of course, that the whole thing is a total scam.
The poor daft subscriber thinks he’s really making a connection with ‘Racy Tracey from Twickenham’, but is more likely chatting
to a middle-aged father of three from the Philippines.

He will have learnt everything about Tracey – her favourite colour, favourite animal and favourite position – have studied a script that reminds him ‘it’s all about selling, selling, selling’,
and will be being paid $4 an hour for his efforts. Or the subscriber could just be talking to
an AI bot – which perhaps is more appealing.

Chatters can be dangerous. As Alanya, a paralegal from Scotland,
discovered when she learned that one of her most enthusiastic followers had travelled
to her home town to find her, encouraged by
her chatter.

‘My chatter told him that I loved him. I would never, ever have
said that,’ she said.

But, sadly, chatters, sugar daddies and stalkers are not a problem
for most creatives. Almost all of whom are still struggling
to make any proper money, however many clothes they take off.

They will never know the clout of Cardi B, or
Lily Allen, or former Disney child star Bella Thorne, who famously made a record- breaking
$1million (£800,000) in 24 hours when she joined in August 2020.
(Though initially there was some confusion as to whether she would be appearing nude or not.
She did not – which caused quite a rumpus.)

Because, unlike celebrities who can redirect their existing social media followers to their OnlyFans accounts,
most people find it hard to grab attention without doing something, well,
grabby.

So, despite all the tales of golden riches,
the average earnings of an OnlyFans creative is still just $150 (£118) a month and, with the market now so flooded, is only likely to
go one way.

And it’s easy to see how, if you’re a young woman who has convinced yourself that you’re in control, empowered and
mistress of your own destiny, you could find yourself moving
inevitably and inexorably up (or perhaps down) the scale, revealing more and
more.

Until, before you know it, like Bonnie Blue and Lily
Phillips, you’ve kept nothing back for yourself.
