Ieronymos Muzeeyi Elected New Head of the Ugandan Orthodox Church

Kampala-Uganda: The Synodal session held at the headquarters of the Alexandrian Patriarchate in Egypt has elected Archbishop Ieronymos Muzeeyi as the new head of the Archdiocese of Uganda. He will replace the late Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga.

A polyglot who speaks Greek, English, Swahili, Kiganda and Kisogha, Muzeeyi is presently serving as the head of the Archdiocese of Mwanza (Western Tanzania). He was decorated with the order of Saint Sava by the Serbian Church in 2009.

Makarios Tillyrides, the Archbishop of Nairobi is the present caretaker of the Ugandan Orthodox Church.
