Sofia – Bulgaria: Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil have urged parishioners to pray for the preservation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church during a recent Divine Liturgy in the Church of St. John of Rila in Pernik.

In his sermon, Patriarch Daniil emphasized the power of faith and called on believers to offer prayers for those affected by the challenges facing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. “Let’s sincerely pray that the Lord will strengthen our brothers and sisters from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, enlighten politicians and that peace will reign on Ukrainian land,” he noted.

Earlier, Patriarch Daniil had expressed deep concern over the recent legislative changes in Ukraine that aim to close the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the only canonical Orthodox Church in the country. He highlighted the lack of recognition for the schismatic church structure created in 2019 by 11 out of 15 Local Orthodox Churches.

The Bulgarian Patriarch concluded his appeal by calling for an early end to the conflict in Ukraine and expressing hope for the preservation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
