Metropolitan Nestor Highlights Religious Persecution at UN Forum

Moscow- Russia: Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe, representing His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, participated in the 10th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations held in Cascais, Portugal on November 27, 2024.
The Forum, themed “Unity in the World – Restoring Trust, Reimagining the Future,” brought together world leaders, diplomats, religious leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss pressing global issues.
During a session focused on protecting religious rights and freedoms, Metropolitan Nestor highlighted the challenges faced by the dioceses and parishes of the Western European Exarchate in recent years. He drew particular attention to the ongoing persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, emphasizing the discriminatory policies of the Ukrainian authorities against its clergy and laity.
The Patriarchal Exarch’s participation in the UN Forum underscores the Russian Orthodox Church’s commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and advocating for the protection of religious freedom worldwide.
