Finnish Orthodox Church Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Autonomy

Helsinki – Finland: The 100th-anniversary celebration of the autonomy of the Orthodox Church in Finland, known as the Finnish Orthodox Church, took place on September 10, 2023, at the Uspenski Cathedral. The historic liturgy commemorating this occasion was jointly presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and Archbishop Leo of Helsinki. They were joined by a distinguished assembly of hierarchs, including Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonia, Metropolitan Grigorios of Peristerion, Metropolitan Vissarion of Spain and Portugal, Metropolitan Arseni of Kuopio and Karelia, and Metropolitan Elia of Oulu.

The liturgy was also graced by the presence of ambassadors from Greece and Cyprus, along with a significant congregation of faithful gathered from various regions across Finland.
