Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Baptizes 132 New Believers in Gedeo, Kore, and Burji Diocese

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia:  The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has welcomed 132 new believers through Holy Baptism in the Gedeo, Kore and Burji Diocese.

According to the diocese, the baptisms were officiated on Sunday, December 14, 2025, by His Grace Abune Gerima, Bishop of the Gedeo, Kore, and Burji Diocese. The rite took place in Wenago District at the Bishopric See of Qoti Debre Brihan Holy Trinity Church.

The newly baptized faithful were part of a group of 149 catechumens, from which 69 males and 63 females completed their catechesis and were received into the Church. The catechetical instruction was provided in the Gedeuffa language by the Diocese’s Secretary, ‘Meleake Brihan’ Atnafu Mamo.

The diocese further announced that preparations are underway to baptize an additional 17 catechumens in the near future.
