Catholicos Aram I Meets Greek PM Mitsotakis in Athens, Discusses Middle East Geopolitics

Athens – Greece: His Holiness Catholicos Aram I arrived in Athens, Greece’s capital, on Thursday noon, May 29th, 2025. His first engagement was a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which he conveyed greetings from Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, along with several diplomatic proposals. The dialogue centered on the prevailing geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East, particularly concerning Armenia, Lebanon, and Syria.
His Holiness was accompanied by a pontifical delegation, including HG Bishop Sahak Yemishian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy in Greece; HG Bishop Dajad Ashekian, Chancellor of the Catholicosate; V. Rev. Fr. Hovhannes Saghdejian, Pastor of Limassol; and V. Rev. Fr. Sarkis Aprahamian, Officer of the Middle Eastern section of the Ecumenical and Inter-religious Relations Department. During the session, His Holiness presented the Prime Minister with a Partsr Pert Gospel, followed by a private meeting with the Prime Minister.
Notably, His Holiness received an official welcome at Athens Airport from representatives of the Greek government and His Beatitude Hieronymos II, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy in Greece, Dr. Armenian Derian, a member of the Central Committee of the Catholicosate, and Takvor Hovaguimian, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Prelacy.
