Albanian Orthodox Church Elects Archimandrite Anastas Mamaj as Bishop of Kruja

Tirana – Albania: The Graceful Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania has elected Archimandrite Anastas (Mamaj) as the new Auxiliary Bishop of the former Episcopate of Kruja. The election took place today, December 9, 2024.

Archimandrite Anastas (Mamaj), a highly respected figure within the Church, was born on August 6, 1979, in Vlora, Albania. He holds degrees in Greek Language, Business Administration, and Social Theological Studies. Before his monastic life, he worked in banking and finance.

Since his ordination as a deacon in 2018 and subsequently as a priest in 2019, he has been actively involved in various church activities, including administrative roles and pastoral work. He is also known for his contributions to the Church’s educational and charitable initiatives.

The newly elected bishop is expected to be ordained on December 15, 2024, at the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana. His ordination will mark an important milestone for the Albanian Orthodox Church and further strengthen its presence in the region.
