Patriarch Porfirije Receives Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk in Belgrade

Belgrade-Serbia: His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia today received Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, advisor to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on February 25,2025.

The visit, conducted with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill and at the invitation of Patriarch Porfirije, focused on strengthening fraternal cooperation between the Moscow and Serbian Patriarchates. Metropolitan Anthony arrived in Belgrade on February 24th for a working visit.

Upon his arrival at the airport, Metropolitan Anthony was greeted by Bishop Alexy of Khvostan, Vicar of Patriarch Porfirije, Archpriest Georgiy Stoisavljević, Head of the Office of the Patriarch of Serbia, and Archpriest Vitaly Tarasyev, Rector of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade.

During the meeting at the Patriarchate, which also included Metropolitan Irinej of Bačka and Archpriest Georgiy Stoisavljević, discussions centered on the close ties between the peoples of Russia and Serbia, the ongoing collaboration between the two Patriarchates, and the current situation within the Orthodox world.

This visit underscores the continued strong relationship between the Serbian and Russian Orthodox Churches and their commitment to addressing shared concerns within the global Orthodox community.
