4/3/15

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej served the Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great in the side-chapel of Holy Martyrs of Belgrade Hermylus and Stratonicus at the Saint Sava Cathedral on Vracar, Belgrade.

The clergy of Saint Sava Cathedral concelebrated to the Patriarch, while the Singing Society “Mokranjac” sang responses. Lots of believers were present at the Liturgy.

Podgorica – Sunday of Orthodoxy was marked at the Podgorica’s Cathedral church. The solemn academy was held on the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy. A great number of the faithful from Podgorica and surrounding areas gathered at the Cathedral church of the Resurrection of Christ on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 1st, 2015. Presbyter Branko Vujacic officiated the Holy Liturgy with the concelebration of local priests. Following the Liturgy, there was a procession with icons around the church, in this way symbolizing the feast day of the victory of Orthodoxy.

In the evening, at the church of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica, a solemn academy was held on the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy and in honour of the 520th anniversary of the work of the Obod’s and Cetinje’s printing office of Crnojevic. Metropolitan Amfilohije and Archbishop George from the Orthodox Church of Czech lands and Slovakia were present.

Vukovar – The first Sunday of the Great Lent – Sunday of Orthodoxy, on 1 March 2015, was also solemnly celebrated in Vukovar. His Grace Bishop Lukijan of Osek-Polje and Baranja served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in a newly renovated church of the Transfer of the Relics of Saint Nicholas in Vukovar.

Indianapolis – Most of the Orthodox churches in Central Indiana gathered for a service at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church for Vespers – to celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy.

Despite the bad weather many came and were fed spiritually (prayers of clergy and singing of choir and cantors) as well as physically (delicious Pitch-in meal).

Fr. Jerome Sanders offered a great sermon. Everyone present was anointed with the oil brought back from Jerusalem by one of the priests. All received a gift prepared by our nuns – icon with the information on back of it of all the Orthodox churches in central Indiana. We felt blessed, as we do each year, to come together in prayer and fellowship. We will continue gathering in different Orthodox churches throughout Great Lent for Vespers (and teachings) on Sunday evenings – this years theme is: Why do we believe what we believe.

Zadar – His Grace Bishop Fotije of Dalmatia served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy on the Sunday of Orthodoxy at the church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Zadar.

Krusevac – On Sunday, 1 March 2015, after the Holy Liturgy at the Cathedral church in Krusevac, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop David of Krusevac, a solemn procession on the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, which is marked on the first Sunday of the Great Lent,  was organized. Many priests and believers participated in the Procession which went from the Cathedral church through the downtown Krusevac until the church of Lazarica where the prayer of supplication was served.

Kragujevac – On Sunday of Orthodoxy, His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadia and the brotherhood of the Cathedral church in Kragujevac organized a great procession in honor of the victory which the Orthodox Church had won after a long struggle over those who evicted holy icons and expelled them from Orthodox churches.

Following the procession, His Grace Bishop served the prayer of supplication in the church and the Synodicon was read.
