The Primate Of The Romanian Orthodox Church Was Awarded The Title Of “Doctor Honoris Causa” Of The University of Oradea

On 18 September, at 12.00 o’clock p.m., His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel was awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” of the University of Oradea.

The event took place in the Rotunda of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Bishop Vasile Coman”. Ciprian Olinici, programmes director with Trinitas Radio station, present at the event, offered more details: “Following the proposal of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Bishop Vasile Coman”, the University of Oradea awarded the highest academic distinction to the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. So, Rector Univ. Prof. Dr. Cornel Antal read according to the academic custom, the diploma and the decree of the University Senate in the Latin language by which the title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to the Patriarch of Romania. According to the academic custom too, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Rev. Prof. Nicu Dumitrascu presented the academic activity of the person awarded.

On this occasion, His Beatitude thanked for the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” awarded and emphasized the fact that the school and the Church have always contributed to the raising of the spiritual cultural level of the Romanian people: “First of all, we wish to express our gratitude for this special honour, the awarding of the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” of the University of Oradea, an honour that we have always conveyed to the Church we serve. The School and Church have always contributed together to the raising of the spiritual cultural and social level of the Romanian people”, informs Trinitas TV station.

“When we received the request of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of “Bishop Dr. Vasile Coman” to award this title to His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, we have been very honoured”, said Rector Univ. Prof. Dr. Cornel Antal, “because His Beatitude belongs both to the spiritual cultural life, and to the academic one of Romania, having unfolded a complex activity throughout several decades”.

After ceremony, the Patriarch of Romania delivered the lecture entitled “Eucharistic Liturgy and Social Charity”, in which he underlined the importance of the sacramental aspect, beside the social one, fields which the Church has to promote together: “Christ does not separate the love for God from the love for people, neither the love for people from the love for God. He does not oppose the construction of churches to the construction of canteens for the poor, because they must both be kept in unity. In the Church we receive love from the love of Christ and we must show this love in the charitable activity or in the social philanthropy.”
