Prize Award Festivity at the Romanian Patriarchate

To end with the Divine Liturgy celebrated on 21 May 2015, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, awarded the winners of the National Contest of mini-projects with missionary philanthropic character entitled “Hands stretched out to accomplish the commandments of God” as well as the winners of the National Contest of the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith”, edition IV.

“We thank all those who organised these contests, those who participated in and those awarded prizes. We pray God to give them good health and joy, many blessed years of life, and may they continue to multiply their coins, to cultivate their talent because talent is emphasised through work. We are very glad because the Romanian people continue to practice this art with rather great effervescence.

We are also very glad because lots of children participated in the national contest “Hands stretched out to accomplish the commandments of God”, a contest that engaged many children and young people in learning that the Gospel is not only a beautiful word, but also a good deed for helping our fellow beings”, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church said.

The contest “Hands stretched out to accomplish the commandments of God”

The 29 children winners of the National Contest of mini-projects with missionary philanthropic character entitled “Hands stretched out to accomplish the commandments of God” were rewarded for their efforts, having been awarded prizes by the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church on the podium specially arranged close to the Patriarchal Cathedral.

The National Contest of mini-projects with missionary philanthropic character entitled “Hands stretched out to accomplish the commandments of God” was organised with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and the approval of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church by the Theological Educational Department of the Romanian Patriarchate, from 15 December 2014 – 21 May 2015.

The contest was organised for the children, priests and religion teachers involved in the catechetic programme entitled “Christ shared to the children” and designed to educate the children to help their fellow beings in distress. The purpose of the contest was to cultivate the children to help the humans who suffer: old sick people, lonely people, abandoned children or in special situations, poor families etc.

National Contest the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith”, edition IV

Today too, after the Divine Liturgy, the merits of the winners of the National Contest the “Orthodox icon – light of faith, edition IV” were recognised. They were awarded by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania. Thus, the following prizes were awarded at fresco section:

–      Prize I – Mandici Constantin, county of Suceava, 99 points;

–      Prize II – Verdes Bogdan Gheorghe, county of Galati, 98 points

–      Prize III – Lipan Toader, county of Neamt, 97 points;

–      Mention – Ghinescu Marius Ciprian, county of Iasi, 79 points.

Three prizes were awarded at mosaic section, as follows:

–      Prize I – Bozga Laurentiu Ion, county of Valcea, 100 points;

–      Prize II – Haraga Andrei Bogdan, county of Iasi, 86 points;

–      Prize III – Ilie Suzana Nicoleta, Bucharest, 71 points.

The National Contest of the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith” – edition IV, 2015 was organised with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, by the Department for Culture and Religious Patrimony – Centre for Cultural Patrimony of Saint Constantine Brancoveanu and by the Theological – Educational Department of the Romanian Patriarchate, from 2 February – 21 May 2015.

On 24 April 2015, the works of the National Contest of the “Orthodox Icon – Light of Faith”, edition IV were estimated. The commission made up of 5 church painters examined the works of the participants within the two sections – fresco and mosaic – and appreciated them according to the following criteria: thematic framing, liturgical hermeneutics, accuracy of colours, and technique of execution.
