Prayer for peace and unity at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest

November 2015

Thousands of faithful gathered on Thursday evening, 05 November 2015, at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, together with His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, to pray for peace and unity, and to intercede for those who have passed away to the Lord and for the healing of those in hospitals, after the tragic accident which took place last week in Bucharest.

Beginning with 18:30 p.m., His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, together with His Grace Mihail, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, and His Grace Timotei, Assistant Bishop to the Archbishopric of Bucharest, surrounded by an assembly of priests and deacons, officiated the Akathist Hymn to our Saviour Jesus Chirst and the Supplicatory Canon to the Most Holy Theotokos.

In his address, the Romanian Patriarch called for peace and unity, within the country and within the Church: “We need peace and unity. We need peace in the Church, we need peace in the society, but also communion, and unity, so that we can perform good one to another, not one against another. Therefore, during these days, the Church wishes to be a servant, a factor of social peace, as stipulated in our legislation, but especially as our Saviour Jesus Christ asks us to be”.

During these days of sorrow, but also of social distress, the Romanian Patriarchate calls the sons of the Church to pray for peace and unity, because prayer is a source of light and wisdom, of spiritual and moral renewal in the life of the Church, but also in the life of our society.
