Kottayam-Kerala-India: The Nasrani faithful of the Malankara Church (Indian Orthodox Church) celebrates the 109th anniversary of the establishment of Catholicate in India (Malankara). The Catholicate was established on the 15th of September 1912 in a ceremony held at the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church under the auspicious of Patriarch Abdedmassiah, Metropolitan Vattaserril Dynosious and other Malankara Prelates. Baselios Paulose I was consecrate as the First Catholicos in Malankara.

The installation of Catholicate in Malankara is a continuation of the indigenous Nasrani administrative system in the modern era. Catholicos-Mooppan and Malankara Metropolitan seated on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas is the head of the Malankara Church. He is the chief custodian of the Malankara Nazranieth and head of the Malankara Nasranis.

The Indian Orthodox Malankara Church is a full member of the ancient Oriental Orthodox communion together with Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Churches.
