Lyon-France: Fr. Nikolaos Kakavelakis, a Greek Orthodox Priest of the Metropolis of France(Ecumenical Patriarchate) was seriously injured in a shooting incident that took place in Lyon, France. Fr Nikols (52) was shot with a sawn-off shotgun on Saturday while closing his Church. The attacker was later arrested by the police.

The Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in France (AEOF) strongly condemned the attack.

Even though the exact motive is not clear, many believe that the shooting incident is part of the ongoing attacks against Christians in France by Islamic radicals. On 29th October, at least three people were killed in a knife rampage at a French Roman Catholic Church in the French city of Nice.
