Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem Condemns the Assault on Armenian Church in Tbilisi

23/7/14

Based upon a press release from the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia, on July 19, 2014, a premeditated hooligan irresponsible action was committed against the Armenian people and the Armenian Church of Holy Etchmiadzin in the suburb of Tbilisi, Georgia.

A short time later this disturbing action was developed further by another group of 50 aggressive individuals who attacked the Pastor and the faithful on the premises of the Church by using profane language. It seems that police never intervened the incident to calm down the situation.

Therefore, the Armenian clergy, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem and the members of St. James Brotherhood vehemently condemn this unethical and unchristian behavior acted by the Georgian Church affiliated individuals. Considering the political uneasy situation in the world, at least the Christian should be careful not to flare up or worsen the Christian relationship between people. We call upon the Georgian government and the Georgian Church to take immediate action and punish the responsible individuals who created such unnecessary disturbing accident.
