Archbishop of Colombo Slams Sri Lankan Government Over China-Funded Project

Colombo- Sri Lanka: Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Colombo criticised the Lankan Government over the Chinese-funded Port City project. The Archbishop Stated that dragged down a path of destruction by those who came to power claiming to protect the country. The Roman Catholic Church has also urged a probe into the X-Press Pearl disaster as well.
The Prelate added that development is not selling the Country’s resources and the government should not offer the Lankan soil to different nations. According to him, the hopes of people in the present government is out of the question. The government has only engaged in betrayals and it needs to be halted.
Moreover, the incumbent Muruththettuwe Ananda of Colombos Abayaram Buddhist temple also criticised the government stating that attempts are made to convert the port city into a Chinese colony.
There have been immense concerts and criticism over the Chinese funded Port City which is under development (adjoining Colombo Port) by reclaiming 269 hectares of land from the Indian Ocean.
