Haiti Relief : SW American Diocese Releases Check for $70,000

HOUSTON: In a well conducted meeting at the diocesan center on Monday, April 26th, Ambassador of Haiti to the United States Mr. Raymond Alcide Joseph accepted the check for $70,000 from Alexios Mar Eusebius, Metropolitan of the Diocese of South-West America. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee and Congressman Al Green were also present on the occasion.

“Haiti, the world’s oldest black republic, is accepting this relief fund from the Ancient Church of the world. This is a historic event and Your Grace, this is not a small amount for Haiti and I promise every penny of this will be utilized for the good of the people of Haiti”, said Raymond Alcide Joseph the Ambassador of Haiti.

Metropolitan Mar Eusebius explained how quickly the parishes in the diocese responded to this needy course. He affirmed that only because of their timely efforts this donation was made possible. “This is small amount when we think about the massive earth quake happened in Haiti, but this shows the solidarity of our believers to the country of Haiti”, he also added. The Metropolitan expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador , congressman and congresswomen for visiting the diocesan center and said that the believers of the Malankara Orthodox Church are humbled and honored by their visit.

Congressman Al Green expressed his happiness and congratulated the Metropolitan for the great achievement of the diocese in short period. He promised that he will be back with a proper congressional acknowledgment to the diocese of South-West America for their service beyond the borders.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee expressed her happiness in witnessing the historic event and congratulated the Metropolitan for his great leadership in the Indian Community and specially for initiating this great International humanitarian effort.

City of Stafford deputy Mayor Ken Mathew, Robin Elackatt, Council Men from Missouri city, Malankara Managing committee member Dr. Zachariah Thomas, Ad-hoc Committee Secretary Fr. P.M Cherian, several other clergies, well wishers and a number of faithful of the Malankara Orthodox Church from the Houston and neighboring cities witnessed the event.

The geographical limits of the Diocese of South-West America includes 18 states and Canada which are Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Washington, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arizona, California, Nevada and Canada. Currently there are 48 Parish churches in the diocese and all churches have actively participated in this altruistic act.
