Seven New Metropolitans Consecrated for the Malankara Orthodox Church (Indian)

Malankara-Kerala-India: Seven new metropolitans were consecrated by His Holiness Marthoma Mathews Third of Malankara Church (Indian Orthodox Church), at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, Pazhanji (Thrissur – Kunnamkulam, Kerala) on the 28th of July 2022. All the metropolitans of the church, several priests, and a large number of faithful, took part in the consecration ceremony.

The consecration ceremony started at 6 am with Holy Liturgy, which was followed by a special consecration service. Delegates from other orthodox churches also took part in the service, which includes H.E. Archbishop Haykazun Najaryan of Australia & New Zealand (Armenian Orthodox Church – Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin) and Rev. Fr Hieromonk Stefan Igumnov of Russain Orthodox Church (Department for External Church Relations – Moscow Patriarchate)

The Malankara Christian Association, the apex body of the Malankara Church elected seven Metropolitans on 25th February 2022, at Kolencherry in Kerala.

The names of the new metropolitans are as follows:

Metropolitan Abraham Stephanos

Metropolitan Thomas Ivanios

Metropolitan Geevarghese Theophilos 

Metropolitan Geevarghese Philoxenos 

Metropolitan Geevarghese Pachomios

Metropolitan Geevarghese Barnabas

Metropolitan Zacharias Severios

The newly consecrated metropolitans will be assigned to dioceses later this year.
