Armenian Catholicos Condemns Ukrainian Law Targeting Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Kyiv – Ukraine: His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has condemned the recent law passed by the Ukrainian Parliament that restricts the activities of the autonomous Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In a statement released today, the Catholicos expressed his concern about the law’s potential negative impact on the religious life of Ukraine.

The Catholicos called on the Ukrainian authorities to respect the historical unity of the Orthodox community and to protect the rights of believers and clergy. He emphasized the importance of preserving the inviolability of holy places and warned against the consequences of the law’s ratification.

The statement highlighted the Armenian Church’s earlier concerns about the draft law and its potential negative effects. The Catholicos expressed disappointment that these concerns were not addressed by the Ukrainian authorities, who adopted the law despite the potential consequences.
