Serbian Orthodox Church Condemns Arrests in Kosovo and Metohija
OCP News Service – 04/08/2024
Belgrade-Serbia: The Diocese of Raško-Prizren has issued a strong condemnation of the recent arrests of five Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. The Church claims the detentions are politically motivated and designed to intimidate the Serbian population.
The arrested individuals, Dragan Cvetković, Dragan Bilić, Miloš Šošić, Slobodan Jevtić, and Dragan Ničić, were apprehended on August 3rd in the village of Pasjane. The Diocese alleges the charges are based on alleged crimes from the 1990s and that the men have lived peacefully in the community since then.
The Church has called on international observers to monitor the situation closely, expressing concerns over the potential for ethnic cleansing and the deterioration of interethnic relations. They have also urged the Serbian government to provide legal assistance to the detainees.
