Vilnius– Lithuania: Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on his visit to Lituania signed an agreement of cooperation with the Prime minister of Lituania – Ingrida Šimonytė on March 21, 2023. This agreement led to the formal establishment of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s presence in Lituania which is jurisdiction under the Russian Orthodox Church. Thus this also led to the creation of a parallel church system in Lituania as declared by the state and the government in May 2022.

Patriarch Bartholomew also visited president Gitanas Nausėda on March 21, 2023 and attended a seminar on“Reaction of Churches and Religious Communities to War and Conflict” on March 22, 2023. During the visit, he also received several priests from the Russian Orthodox Church.
