Israeli Police Halts Several Palestinians from Visiting the Holy Sepulcher Church

Holy Land-Jerusalem: The Israeli police prevented several Palestinians from visiting the Holy Sepulcher Church in Jerusalem reports the WAFA news agency. Palestinian faithful wanted to participate in the Orthodox Holy Fire ceremony and Easter service.

The Police authorities closed all gates except one (new gate). This gate is heavily monitored and restricted as well.

Even though Isreal permits freedom of worship for Jews, Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem, the present socio-political situation has made things difficult for the Palestinians. Even though every year thousands of Christians attend the ceremony of Holy Fire in Jerusalem, this year the Israeli authorities have restricted their number to 4000.
